Katia: Exercise caution Prequel Update notes.

This update has me feeling all the feels because I’m afraid the comic may be winding down to the end-game. I mean, maybe not, but Kaz has been doing this for ages and he surely must be thinking of doing something else by now.

But I’d like to throw my comments up, just to go over it a bit. I showed my daughter (she’s been following it since she was 18 – 20 now – so it’s okay, right?) She caught some things I didn’t too which was nice…

The first image here. Why are little bottom fangs so cute? I dunno, but they are.

Next is the long .gif where she creates a Completed Quests log. That’s nice to see. Alas it also means there will be no dance competition, but we can’t have everything I guess. 😦

Someone may have already broken down all those quests tumbling down, but I had to give it my best shot too.

And then we come to this… When I saw this one, I didn’t think a thing of it. Katia has an unusual look on her face, but then, she’s never been in a situation where she’s actually gotten valuable stuff like the silver dagger. And yet… and yet… my daughter immediately thought naughty thoughts. I’ve seen others say the same, but I never got any naughty thoughts from this at all – which is weird! I’m usually the first to do so. I guess that expression screams something other than what I thought it was?

This frame I like too for some reason. I think partly because of the cute fangs, but moreso because of the open, honestly happy look on her face. It’s a rare thing!

Skipping a few less interesting frames, then this little thing. I just wanted to see if there was anything interesting in the .gif… Alas 36 frames later I couldn’t find anything special, but it’s still funny.

Then this – kinda nice to see the flame atronach helping. Though it leaves me to wonder how Sigrid is going to get out. Plus – how did flamegirl get there before Katia? But nevermind…

FWING!

And Katia gets a bite to eat. Flamegirl gets some charcoal.

And then this. Yes, obviously Kaz intends us to think it’s the Oblivion gates. Others have suggested it’s just dawn. But… I think sometimes the obvious answer is the right answer. I think there’s mayhem outside, and I don’t like it. Is there another way out through the caves?

But – just for a moment – I hope Katia can snatch up her stuff and her bag of gold and have at least one fleeting moment of hopefulness. Don’t look out the window just yet Katia. Doom can wait.

Telekinesis is HARD!

…and it makes you scrunch up your face in weird and amusing ways.

So I wanted to do a SFW Prequel-related thing because I like to post to Prequel fanart booru sometimes, and all I’ve been doing lately are NSFW stuff and audio files, so I looked and found this “classic” Katia by Plague of Gripes:

Now I don’t know when he originally drew it, but I’m sure it was years ago – pre-hiatus, and I don’t THINK it had ever been colored, so I took steps to rectify that. First, I found this canon image that I pulled the base colors off of. They’re all dark and muted because it’s at night of course, but there’s a light off to her right too.

So here’s my base coloring (and background)…

Next, I added a layer I named “glowybits”. This isn’t how I do shading typically, but it made sense to mimic Kaz’ pallet – so the parts of Katia that are lit by the nearby streetlamp are her “original” colors. So here it is with the Glowybits layer:

I did obviously move the lighting a bit more forward so we could see more of her face. The fact that it also allows for lighting of her boobs was PURELY coincidental. 🙂

Next up, highlighting and gloss layer:

Almost there! Now, all that’s needed is to add a low-opacity reflection layer, and Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!:

As in the original, the snow is tending to build up on horizontal surfaces like the top of her head, her pauldrons, and… her boobies. But don’t distract her by mentioning it – she’s CONCENTRATING! You can brush that snow off her later.

Chapter 1 of 18 of my 2nd Spyjirra fiction named You Only Live 18 Times. It’s set in an alternate future of the Elder Scrolls universe – a bit of a steampunk-ish setting. Cut me a bit of slack though, I’m far from a professional reader and certainly not a voice actor. But I did add some effects that make it a bit more interesting I think.The character of Ra’Jirra is based on Kazerad’s side character, though even I have to admit, the connection is tenuous at best.

Boogeestro drew it a few days ago and I’ve been working on it every free second. I rather like it, if you can’t tell. That’s the CatV3 she’s riding – a sort of steampunk-ish JetSki.

And yeah, I gave her a nip bump. Hey, give her a break. She’s wet and excited. These things happen!

Yeah, it’s important to recognize your deviancy before you can address them. Though I seem to just do a lot of recognizing and very little addressing.

So I wanted to color something again and ran across this Katia by luraiokun as a gift to Rick2Tails.

It caught my eye immediately. The white outline first, but notice the soles of the feet, the breast and the eye that aren’t colored in that light bluish grey really pop out. That’s the whole monochromatic thing again. But I just wanted a pretty cat butt to color, so afraid I didn’t go that route. Got rid of the square around it.

Another less obvious thing I did was remove all the saturation. There’s no color there, even if it appears to have blue in it. It doesn’t. It’s pure grey. That was done for a reason. Because when I apply my base colors on a Multiply layer, they will be darkened. But by first increasing the lightness, the resulting color will be just what it should be. I COULD have tried to remove the grey and make her white, but I’ve found that to be problematic. Better to leave it and brighten the base layer so the final color is what it should be.

You might notice I put the pale belly (nearly white) color on the underside of her tail also and very subtly in her… um… well… butt. No, it’s not canon, but I felt like it for some reason. Probably primarily to add a bit more interest. Also originally I had colored her entire soles of her feet in pink, but revised that when someone said they looked like rat feet. He was right. Pads are better. Next up, shading.

I started with this soft shading, but when I got to this point, I realized that – though I think it looks okay, it doesn’t fit with the style of the drawing and all those hard edges. So I started over and went with hard shading instead.

Yeah. I think that’s better. Not as “3D’ as soft, but it fits with the style better. There’s 2 levels of shading here. The obvious, but right where she’s sitting on her heels, under her armpit and on her neck just below her head there’s a dark shadow. Next, I got creative. I wanted to represent fur as right now she’s too smooth.

So what I did was used a small eraser with a short fade and “bit into” the shadow to give the impression of fur without having to actually draw any. Just tried to keep those “bites” flowing roughly in the direction the fur would at each point. This took, a while, but I think it looks better as a reminder that Katia is SUPPOSED to have fur, not just yellow skin. And doing it in the shadow seems to work pretty well.

And that’s it. A bit of gloss and highlighting, a butt-shadow and a (frankly very quick) background that’s suggestive of an outdoor scene if only by the colors. And now I can take a step back, look at her…

And feel bad because she’s disappointed that I again colored her nude. Sorry sadcat! You just look so GOOD that way. Hey, at least there’s no visible plumbing!

FlapperKat by Zokva

Another coloring thing. LOTS of in-progress images on this one. I’d done that bowling-ball crushing Katia and, though it was undoubtedly another lewd thing, I really did (still do) like it a lot. But it was time to do something a little less lewd and I’d noticed this one when I was looking through Zokva (Zokvic on FA)’s various galleries so thought I’d give it a shot.

As is my standard, I started by putting down the base colors. Because I’m a pervert, I did her under-clothing separately so I could make her dress transparent later if I felt like it. Sorry fellow-pervs, I didn’t end up using it. Awwww.

Next up I started looking for references for fringe, ‘20s style dresses. I came across this one.

What really caught my eye though was how the fringe falls away from the breasts, which calls attention to them without being too obvious, and how the underlying dress get’s REALLY reflective there. I went with a blue-grey color though because I think it contrasts with Katia’s color better.

Next was the fringe. I tried a lot of experiments but settled on 6 different layers of fringe, starting at the dividing line on her dress and following her contours, keeping in mind gravity will pull things to the sides.

I wanted more sparkle though, so I copied the fringe layer, added noise to it, and changed it to a Hard Light type layer. I liked the end result. Looks sorta like glitter.

Next I started doing shading, but was really unhappy with my results in the belly area. I even went back to the underlying body and drew some body guidelines to help me get a feel for the shading, but it didn’t help much:

So I did some Google searching for Female Belly Shading. Found a tutorial but I cheated. I just copied the image, reversed it to match my light sorce, overlaid it as a transparent layer, morphed it to fit my Katia and used is as a shading guideline for that part of her. Check this out:

That got me the results I was hoping for anyway. I could work with that. Here’s the final shading:

Might be a bit much for a “covered” belly, but I liked it anyway. So highlighting and I’m almost done:

Okay, She’s done, but what background? For some reason I decided a nice curtain backdrop would be easy and seemed appropriate.

Okay.. And finally, the floor and the cigarette smoke. Made the floor reflective of the curtains and her feet. And this is the final for FlapperKat.

High Pressure Kat – Booruable

One more version of this, revised to be (hopefully) acceptable on the Prequel fanart booru. Again, original drawing by Zokva, but I revised it for this scene.

Removed “details” on painted areas, completely revised background to make it in the cage, rounded out her right boob to de-emphasize the nipple shape there. Did a bit of cleanup too.

Quill-Weave visits Exotic Foreign Lands

and finds new forms of artistic expression! Actually, she’s not shocked or excited about the nude khajiit on the body pillow so much as that she’s reading the price tag on the back.

Kaz drew it mostly, but I may have taken slight artistic liberties when I did some linework over it. Really, not much though! I didn’t even draw The Porn Line or boobybumps! And I’m confident he didn’t have the anime store background in mind.

I got a couple of Kaz commissions last night of two scenes from the fanfiction.

Here’s the first – Ra’Jirra at the roulette table:

The other is from when La’Dasha is reviewing the recorded scroll of Ra’Jirra and Ko’Manir’s… um… private time together.

I’ll let you figure out that reflection in her eye. I really love his take on La’Dasha, so I consider this canon now. As for that reflection, I made a slight modification of it to remove it.

What is the world coming to when I choose to modify a Kaz picture to make it less lewd?!

Well, we can’t have that. I also modified the Ra’Jirra to go the other way. I don’t think he’ll mind if I’m clearly saying it’s a modification.
