I’ve been sitting on this one for probably 6 months. Never felt like I could do it the way I wanted to. Still could use cleanup a bit, but I feel like I’ve progressed far enough to post it anyway – and thus I’m probably done with it now.
Kaz drew it a long time ago – I don’t think it was even my commission. But I wanted to do a good latex-y looking bodysuit. I didn’t even use the Multiply layers when I started this! (Trust me, that’s an archaic way to do things!)
Something about that title just suggests a rather specialized Barbie doll. “Kids! Get you’re Pole-Dancing Katia now at Toys-R-Us!” No, this one won’t be on sale there I’m afraid.
However, if Quill-Weave mutilating a pumpkin with a knife while clothes-less was okay, then this just MIGHT be too. Or it might not. But this is gonna be a long post anyway, so if you just wanna get to the good stuff, you can just scroll down to the bottom.
But let me sidetrack a sec. I really like some things about Tumblr, mostly the ease of posting and the way it auto-splits images into 3 different resolutions (or more). And ESPECIALLY that those images are publicly accessible directly. That may not be the case forever, but it is for now anyway. Sure they rename them weird, and they’re constantly changing HOW they store them, but still it works and is easy to upload. What’s the point?
Take this sketch by Ciderward as an example…
Yeah, it’s lewd. I hope you like it because you’re gonna see LOTS more of it on this post. But as to Tumblr, that image up there is found at URL 78.media.tumblr.com/978a937056298758e4cb31ec3dcb31a1/tumblr_inline_ozo4mvza7G1sn6wro_540.png (right now. It can actually change!) Notice the 540.png at the end. Well, you can change that manually to 1280.png and get a higher resolution (if the original is bigger than 540px wide). Which is cool. But you can also find the original (raw) version by doing this;
Change the 78.media at the first of the url to data, and change the _540.png at the end to _raw.png
Doesn’t make a difference with Stripper Katia but it gets you the original, unmolested resolution. You might want it if you REALLY like Stripper Katia. So… now, on to the good stuff…
Cider drawized it on a recent stream. I was asked to color it and to say I did is probably an understatement. I went wild on it. I do feel bad though because I forgot who originally commissioned it! But honest he did ask me to color it!
So first, as usual, I added flat colors. Not much to that this time:
Which is nice. But then I normally move on to shading. Where’s the light source gonna be? Wait… Light source? On a Stripper Cat? Why, there would be MULTIPLE light sources. This was going to be interesting. So, put her on stage! (lighted purple stage that is)
Now suddenly there’s potential here! Lights! Camera! ACTION! Let the shading-beast LOOSE!
Nice! (or not. But I thought ‘Nice!’) Time for highlights and an audience!
I was working on this while also on a FurNut stream and threw it out there for comments. FurNut himself drew one thing that was obviously needed to make it accurate, pointing out that really since Katia is from Oblivion, the coins were more likely than bills. After a few tweaks I ended up with this. By the way, you can blame Sashimi on the coin that’s bouncing off her ass.:)
FINISHED? WHY HELL NO! I’ve got multiple light sources here! I can turn them on and off! I’ve got a damned animated GIF I can make out of this!:
And there you have it. Stripper Katia – Fully Loaded.
Think it will pass the Booru rules? Na. Probably not. And personally I prefer the non-gif one a little more. But a bit of easy ‘animation’ does spice things up!
Is this pushing a non-NSFW blog too far? Guess I’ll find out. It’s NOT safe for work IMHO, but it’s also not porn. I do hope it’s not over-the-top too bad as I’m going to insert it into my story. It’s a nekked lizard with naughty bits conveniently covered. I commissioned Cider to do a scene from Evil Quill Weave Pt. 3. Technically I asked for one where she was running around effectively naked with a Jack-O-Lantern. Sort of the main scene of the story.
This isn’t quite what I had in mind – but it works PERFECTLY with an earlier scene where she’s carving a pumpkin (and it says she removed her Evil Outfit, though it didn’t specifically say she was nekked.)
So, here’s the original sketch from Cider:
And here’s my coloring/background/editing thingy:
What do you think? Too far? I have a blog for NSFW stuff, but I’m really hoping I can slide this under the wire in the Fanart booru. I’m going to give it a shot anyway!
Well now there’s a mix of characters if ever I saw one! A three-way crossover! Enheldor commissioned Cider to do this one too, and I finished coloring it just now. Though Welkynd Kitten IS from Prequel, it’s a pretty non-prequelish thing. So I won’t post this directly to the Booru but I’ll put it in a comment instead.
Here’s the original from Cider:
So, first thing was to add the flat colors…
One of the things I’ve picked up is to do the shade layer as a solid color. I used to paint in grey, but the suggestion is to ERASE to make shadows, not paint them. I dunno if it makes much difference really, but I do it anyway. Also I learned to use a soft brush where shadows are cast from far away and a harder edge when closer. Also, I’m using a softer brush for shade on Rainbow Dash than on Adine, thinking the fur on one and harder scales on the other are more obvious that way.
I thought I’d go for a bit “lower” lighting angle this time. More like a morning scene. However, that term “put it where the sun doesn’t shine” wouldn’t apply to Rainbow Dash on this occasion. I’ll let you figure that one out…
As for highlighting…
At the default tumblr setting for graphics, I know you can’t see much difference there. But at higher res it’s more obvious. I’m almost always adding a shiny “line” when doing scaly things now, so Adine gets em here. Because of the lighting Rainbow Dash’s eyes dont really get much of a sparkle, but Adine gets a bit.
I have a feeling I did the shadow wrong around Adine’s tail, but I’ll leave it be. There’s also some darker shadows in here to give it a bit more depth.
Finally, I had to add some background. It also had to be light in color so as not to cause a bunch of haloing at the edges. I came up with this, which is utter crap but it gives them SOME place to be (even if it looks like a weird desert).
That’s it. Another filed away and colored. Now I have at least 2, maybe three with nekked characters. They’re all conveniently censored but they’re still risque. Coming soon!
Madman read some fanfiction on the Prequel stream tonight and he was SO friggin good that I persuaded him and Kaz to let me pay him for voice work and read my latest fanfic. This is the result. I left it fully intact, with all weirdness in place. I might edit it at some point, but I kinda like leaving it as-is.
Final version. Katia and Surly Bartender at bridge voiced by me. Bass and mid-thingy by LuminosityXVII. Waiting for our royalty checks now. And the troll frame removed from the .gif too.
This probably isn’t the final version. Someone else may be adding a vocal-bass track. It’s awe-full. Be sure to listen all the way to the bridge – duo meomers!
I started writing a new story today. I thought I’d try and tackle Katia backstory including the cult she was in and the Razor Incident. Should fun right? I was even going to make it NSFW, though not graphic.
I even did some Hammerfell research. But the more I wrote, the more I didn’t like it. It simply wasn’t entertaining. It just made me feel worse for Katia than ever. Of course there is no ‘canon’ for that period of her life, but as I wrote it I felt like it probably would be very close to canon – but I couldn’t continue and ended up deleting what I wrote.
Some things just really don’t need to be explored. It reminded me of the story Pet Semetary. I used to be a big Steven King fan and really liked the book. Then they made a movie of it. I came out of the movie thinking, “That was a very true-to-the-story movie. And I wish I’d never seen it.”
That’s kind of how the story was going. I’m afraid it probably was pretty accurate to whatever Kaz has in mind for her backstory, vague as that might be. But it’s not something fun to explore. I think I’ll do another Evil Quill Weave instead or something.
Okay, first I really should give credit where it’s due. The concept behind this was IkkyKrrk’s idea. I just ran with it.
On the Prequel Fanart site, if you put a QUESTIONABLE tag on an image, it will superimpose a pineapple and the word “Questionable” over the top. Kaz doesn’t accept anything REALLY porny, but a few risque images do pop up there regularly.
So there was a discussion (I think on Kaz’s inactive Picarto chat actually!) where we were talking about how the Questionable tag probably gets you significantly higher views than without it. A long time ago I put it on a non-questionable image for just that reason an got a little hand slap for it. Deserved.
So somewhere along the line we talked about how that could be hacked a bit. The idea we came up with was putting the overlay on the original graphic directly – so it would be part of the image without the Questionable tag at all. An interesting idea, but with little point. You click the supposedly ‘questionable’ icon and the image has the pineapple on it anyway. Cute for a second, then eh…
But then the idea came up of doing a .gif with the Questionable as the first frame. From there, the rest became obvious. Most places you put an animated .gif file, the first frame is all that shows up unless you hover or click it. I took it upon myself to see this idea brought to fruition.
First step – nab a screenshot of the Booru and splice out a single Questionable image. Then, painstakingly delete everything behind the pineapple and words so that it’s essentially a transparent image with just the words and pineapple:
Next, put a naughty katia pic behind it. That took about 2 seconds to find. No, I won’t post or link to it, though it is kinda cute in a lewdy way. I probably should credit the artist – but I’m at work right now and it’s not a good place to look for that again. I’ll amend this post once I find the artist’s name.
Now, for the fun part. I needed an animated gif to put “behind” it. I use Paint.net for a lot of basic stuff, but for what I planned to do I really needed to use photoshop as I wasn’t just going to paste a rickroll .gif behind this. No, I had more in mind. I found this:
I had to resize and crop it, but Photoshop handled that fine. It needed to be the same dimensions as the little Questionable frame to work properly. But if I posted it like that, it would get a snigger or two and then be taken down. No, I needed a Katia head. This has 27 frames, so I had to paste a Katia head on top of Rick 27 times. I did that, but then I realized that the microphone needs to be in front of her head – so I cut and pasted the microphone 27 times. And if you notice, that microphone MOVES in the video.
Okay, I had that. Cheezy but works. And yet I still felt it was missing something. It needed words:
“Meowmer Meowma Meow Mew Meoup”
“Meowmer Meowma Meow Mew Meown”
“Meowmer Meowma Meow Me-ound Meown Me Oun Mewwww”
I had to crop it a bit more which cut the words off, but they’re practically unreadable anyway. So, I ended up with this. Yes, the “fake” frame has to come once per loop – but without it the whole point would be lost.
